Lilly Pilly Designs on Bowls

I have used my Lilly Pilly designs to decorate some bowls. I used blue underglaze to make riso prints. Unfortunately a small round riso screen disintergrated so I have 3 bowls with large and small round prints and 3 bowls with large round plus sections of rectangular prints.

Palm Tree Fruit Designs

Using this photo of palm tree fruit (berries) as I starting point I have made these designs to use on my ceramic works.

New Designs _ Guinea Flower Seed Pods

I have come up with three new designs from my initial drawings. I used shaped frames - oval, wavy rectangle and a hexagonal frame. Here they are:

Design

Slipcast

These images show the results of a module in slipcasting a prototype. We used all sorts of soft water proof containers, filled them with plaster and then created the mold from that. My original containers were paper party lolly bags and the refill tube for fabric softener.
The three grey ones are "Lean and Mean" teapots. Additions of handles and lids transform them into teapots.

Summerish

I hope these survive their firings as the decoration has taken a lot of time. A combination of sprigs and prints.

Raku

These pieces were fired in a Raku firing. The teapot was relief printed with copper oxide and then glazed with a clear crackle glaze. The little dishes were printed using a Riso print and then glazed with the same glaze then design scratched through glaze. The design then turned black during reduction in sawdust.

Cup and Saucer Exhibition

This cup and saucer have been given into the hands of Australia Post to be flown to Warwickshire, England for the Cup and Saucer Exhibition being run by the 'Where I Fell In Love Gallery". Their website is of the same name and you can click on the link to view all the other cups and saucers that have been sent along to take part.

Drawings

I am sitting in on some drawing classes each Friday morning in the hope it will help get my eye in for better pots and decorations.

The theme is the body and how objects relate to the body, such as bags or in this instance, my briefcase which holds my equipment.

This week we had a live model.

More Design

Well, I started with the photo of the lillypilly fruit and then did some drawings. From these drawings I made some stamps of bisque fired clay. To use the stamps, I rolled out some clay slabs, stamped them, cut them into shape and made some teapots. These are my first handbuilt (not wheel-thrown) teapots. The spouts were thrown on the wheel. The small teapot was made using cut pieces of stamped clay in a rectangular plaster mould. The rectangular clay was then cut and joined again to make the small teapot. The taller one was made with two pieces cut to shape from the stamped slab and then joined, feet, handle and spout added. Now how to finish them??? Oxides? Glazes? Choices, choices.
