Decoration

Today I packed a kiln of high fire (1300) oxidised ware.  Won't know for a few days how that goes.  These pieces are in a bisque firing that should be cool tomorrow morning to unpack...

Oh, your lithography prints came out great. Wish I knew more about this method. I have lots of drawings in my journal, but when I try to paint them in slip on clay the lines come out too thick and I can't get the detail I want, no matter how thin the paint brush is that I use.

Thanks Linda, however, these are not prints. My friend and I are still trying to get the technique right. These are Mishima drawings, abit like the technique that Diana Fayt uses: http://www.dianafayt.com/ceramics/bowls1.html
You put a light coating of wax over your pencil drawing on dry leather hard clay then draw through the wax witha needle tool, paint the underglaze into the lines and then sponge off, Voila! neat lines!

Hi Anna, thanks, I guess I was thinking your original drawing was somehow transfered to the clay like a print, some how in my mind I was envisioning something like a silkscreen, I wasn't exactly sure what the process was. I took a workshop with Diana but she didn't use the wax in that particular workshop, I will have to try that part of this technique to see if I can achieve what I want. Thanks for the info.

I have tried screen printing onto clay but find it tricky to get a clear print. This Mishima method lets you capture the freshness of direct drawing. These are now back in a glaze firing so fingers crossed.
