Pot in Action

#PIA or pots in action is a current hash tag showing pots being used... here is one from me...

Hand-formed plate - copper based glaze fired to stoneware in electric kiln. The cherry tomatoes are self sown from our garden.

thanks Linda, I like that, volunteers, ha ha. They may have had some help from the wild birds :^)

Lovely splash of colour from the cherry tomatoes. Tomato season finished here now with chilly nights and first frosts appearing! Saturated copper glazes are fascinating as they tip over abruptly from turquoise green to gun metal gray. Yours reminds me of a test I did of a cone 10 glaze that will give green when fired in a soda firing, but gray when fired electrically. I had a brief look at your Wedding Favours post a few days ago, and will have a proper read soon. Really great information there that could be applied to making other small ceramic objects. I've got the rather daunting prospect of trying to design and make something that I can sell to cruise ship tourists that call in to Dunedin for a few hours. I may be able to make Kiwis or something like that by a similar method. Thank you for sharing it.

Hi Peter
Those tomatoes found a very sheltered spot to grow. That copper glaze is tricky.. you need just the right thickness.
I'm so pleased you think you might get some ideas from my Wedding Favours post. Thanks for letting me know.
