Prototypes

Today I enjoyed decorating the first of my perfume bottles (plus some spares without stoppers).
I have used a mix of Chinese tissue prints and prints of my own design. When fired they will be dark blue on a white background. (hopefully)

With flowers

I always imagined these little slipcast vessels with flowers as a table centre piece or on a mantel.

I hope to work up some new designs for this year using the Australian Native Violet.

A Gift of Welcome for Willum

We have a new edition to our extended family. I have enjoyed crocheting some items for him. It has been a nice alternative in the hot weather, to sit inside with a cleaner activity and create something which I hope will be useful.

Snowy Mountains 2007

My husband and I spent Christmas with our youngest son in Thredbo in the NSW Snowy Mountains. Cold but fine weather helped us enjoy our hot Christmas meal. The spring rains meant there was a profusion of flowers and grasses.

After Hella Jongerius

I have been impressed by the work of this Dutch designer and so created my own series using pigs which were a significant animal in our family life. My father had his own piggery of stud Berkshire pigs.

Coolamon detail

These photos show detail of my coolamon platters decoration. The colours are on the inside and the plain stamp is on the outside. I have then used a coloured terrasiggilata on the outside which will remain unglazed. The inside will have a clear glaze to enhance the coloured underglazes and make them functional.

My Coolamon Platters

These are not the best photos but you can get the idea. To make them I roll out a small slab of clay, stamp my decoration on the clay then cut the slab and reassemble it in a plaster mold. The decoration is made by a technique called relief printing using underglaze colours. So far I have made five and the first one is in a kiln ready to be fired tomorrow.

Inspirations

These two items have been lent to me by my teacher. A traditional Aboriginal coolamon and a small item of pottery by a previous student.
