With the very dry weather we have had for the last few months the gum trees are becoming stressed and dropping their leaves..
I collected some and thought how lovely the colours would be on some pots...
I am taking the inspiration and seeing what I can do
As is always the case with underglazes... what you see is not always what you get once they have been through two firings and have a glaze on top.
We shall see... stay tuned..

They are such lovely subtle colours aren't they? Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
And today we had some blissful (and much needed) rain.
wonderful, have you ever used the gum tree seeds to press into the clay, they make great marks too
Looking forward to the finished bowls. Nice use of the leaf. It looks like it's floating to the bottom of the bowl.
Hi EC you could send some of that rain our way if you can... so very dry here
Hi Linda
Yes I have used the seeds... or gumnuts as they are known.. some have a lovely cross shape. I guess they now grow around the world and not only in Australia.
Hi Smartcat
Thank you... I hope I have the colours right... underglazes can be tricky can't they..
California has a lot of gum or eucalyptus trees, in fact in some places they started growing them for the wood and for mulch products since they are so fast growing, when I lived in Hawaii they had a gum called a rainbow gum with multicolored bark that was spectacular
Hi Linda
Unfortunately those gum trees could be adding fuel to the bush fires in California. They need different management to deciduous trees. Our volunteer fire service undertake 'hazard reduction' burns each year during winter to reduce the risk to homes.
